Dee Dee, your Wonga La La game monkey!

Who Can Play

The game is open to all posters (even new ones) on the Red Heel Sock Monkey Message Board, with a limit of 3 players per household per Whip.

However, Pierre Mon Frere is not allowed to play. (Sorry, but we agree with Mrs. Tiffany on this one.) Anyone else caught in the act of trying to sabatoge Wonga La La will likewise be banned from play.

How to Play/Scoring

Each tournament is divided into four Whips and a Sycophant Smackdown.  Each Whip (and the Smackdown) is divided into two Rounds. Rounds last 3-5 days, depending. The beginning and end of each round will be announced in advance. Late answers will not be counted. Early answers will not be counted.

Round 1

"To start it, you got to say a color, a number, and an animal, plus two adjectives, a proper noun, and someplace on the planet Earth."

Player answers are placed in a table in the order in which they are submitted. "Columns," below, indicates columns with answers from all players for the same item.

1. Answers that do not fit the criteria are scored (-1) and Get Banished.

2. If any answers in the same column start with the same letter of the alphabet, each answer scores at zero (0) and Gets Banished.

3. And if any two answers in a column are the same, then the first answer is scored at zero and the second answer is scored (-1) and both of them Get Banished (which they would have anyway for starting with the same letter, but there are no double penalites in this round.)

4. And then all the answers that are left are scored (1) and Saved for Wonga La La.

5. Lack of an answer in any column is scored (-1).

6. And finally, whoever posts their answers first during Round 1 receives a bonus point.

ADDENDUMS

** Non-English words are not allowed. (I'm sorry, but we're too lazy to look them up.)
** Numbers are scored on the basis of their spelled form, e.g., "1" = "one".

Round 2

"Next, take all your words that did not Get Banished but were Saved for Wonga La La.
You will use them in a poem to honor Wonga La La. The first and third lines must be, "Hey Wonga La La hey!"*
The second line must use all of your Saved words.
The fourth line must use no more than seven words, of which three must be unique to the poem."

* in Whip 2, we will use: "Wonga La La oh oh oh!"
* in Whip 3, we will use: "Wonga La La! Wonga La La!"
* in Whip 4, we will use: "Oh Wonga La La, mystery!"

1. If you follow all of the directions about what to use where in your poem to Wonga La La, you neither gain nor lose points.
However, for each instance that a direction is not followed, one point is deducted from the Round 2 score.

2. If you rhyme the second and fourth lines, you get 1 point. But if you use the same word to rhyme them, then you lose 1 point.

3. Also, if you use the same word to end either line 2 or 4 that another player already has, then while you gain no points, that player gains 1.

In addition, each Wonga La La Whip Judge is allowed 1 point to cast for the following categories:

4. Best use of rhythm
5. Best use of humor
6. Best creative imagery
7. Best single phrase
8. Best homage to Wonga La La

Each Whip Judge is also allowed to cast 1 discretionary point, for any reason, to one player.

Any ties between players at the end of Round 2 will be determined by dice roll.

Whoever has the greatest number of points at the end of Round 2 wins the whip, and shall have the song of honor sung to them by the other players:

Hail Wonga La La, Hail!
Hail Wonga La La, Hail!
Winner of this La La Whip
Your Ship's Begun to S-S-Sail!

Tournament rule addendums:

Anyone ending a whip (not just round 1) with negative points is disqualified for the remainder of the tourney.
You can end a whip with zero points without disqualification.

The winner of each whip shall have the song of honor sung to them by the other players, and shall have whip bragging rights.

However, there isn't a Wonga La La Tournament Grand Champion until it's all over, which requires a Sycophant Smackdown among the individual whip winners.

* * *
Sycophant Smackdown

Only Whip Champions are allowed to compete in the Smackdown, which has its own rules:

RULES FOR THE WONGA LA LA SYCOPHANT SMACKDOWN

Round 1

"To start it, you got to say a texture, a measurement, and a plant, plus an adjective, a word ending in "-ing", a proper noun, and the name of one of the other Sycophant Smackdown players."

1. Answers that do not fit the criteria are scored (-1) and Get Banished.

2. If any answers in the same column start with the same letter of the alphabet, then the first answer is scored at (0) and the second answer is scored (-1) and both of them Get Banished.

3. And if any two answers in a column are the same answer, then the first answer is scored at (0) and the second answer is scored (-2) and both of them Get Banished.

4. And then all the answers that are left are scored 1 and Saved for Wonga La La.

5. Lack of an answer in any column is scored (-2).

6. And finally, whoever posts their answers first during Round 1 receives 1 point... and whoever posts their answers last gets 1 point, too!

Round 2

"Next, take all your words that did not Get Banished but were Saved for Wonga La La. You will use them in TWO poems to honor Wonga La La. This is hard to do, because you want to make them as different as possible!"

For each of your two poems:

A) The first and third lines should be one of these four choices (be sure to use the same Wonga phrase for both lines 1 and 3):

"Hail Wonga La La Hail!"
"Wonga La La oh oh oh!"
"Wonga La La! Wonga La La!"
"Oh Wonga La La, mystery!"

B) The second line must use all of your Saved words PLUS ONE WORD FROM EACH OF YOUR OPPONENTS' POOL OF SAVED WORDS. (You can pick a different set of three opponents' words for each of your two poems.)

C) The fourth line can be anything you like.

1. There are no points for rhyming, or for having complete sentences.

2. But there IS a bonus point for any poem containing a question!

In addition, each Wonga La La Whip Judge is allowed 1 point to cast for the following categories:

3. Best use of rhythm
4. Best use of humor
5. Best creative imagery
6. Best single phrase
7. Best homage to Wonga La La
8. Weirdest poem (new category!)
9. Most Distinct 'Trees (new category special for the Smackdown! How different are your two poems within the parameters drawn?)
10. Judges' Discretionary Point (given for any reason)

Whoever has the greatest number of points at the end of Round 2 WINS the Wonga La La Tournament, and shall have the penultimate song of honor sung to them by the other players and spectators!
